The Shenzhen-based company set up the country’s first fully driverless RoboTaxi operations center on Jan. 28 in Pingshan District to support their program.

Citizens can sign up for the pilot program through AutoX’s official WeChat account AutoX_AI (“AutoX无人驾驶”).

Pilot users can use AutoX membership credits for the RoboTaxi rides.

Passengers using a fully driverless RoboTaxi, which operates as a Chrysler Pacifica minivan, can speak to a customer support agent at any time during the journey without accompanying safety drivers or remote operators.

A demonstration video shows that the unmanned vehicle can pass deliverymen and vehicles, wait for pedestrians and workers to cross the road, as well as make unprotected left turns and lane changes on its journey.

It is reported that Pingshan District and AutoX have formed a strategic partnership to jointly promote the large-scale application of autonomous driving technology in line with high standards, and to seek innovative breakthroughs in market access of driverless vehicles, policy supervision and legal issues.

Headquartered in Shenzhen, AutoX describes itself as a leading enterprise in autonomous driving technology in the world.

It is the first company in China to realize large-scale point-to-point autonomous driving in the downtown areas of first-tier cities, the Daily reported.

In 2020, AutoX launched a pilot RoboTaxi program in Shanghai, where citizens can use Amap, a map app, to hail a RoboTaxi ride with a safety driver aboard.
