Audience members who live far from Pingshan Theater but don’t want to miss its captivating shows now can board its free shuttle bus after night shows. The bus will depart from the theater entrance and stop at Shuanglong Metro Station’s Exit D and then Longcheng Square. The service is not for daytime shows.

To take advantage of the free bus, scan the QR code to connect with the theater assistant through WeChat and send “your name + mobile phone number + name of the show of which the ticket has been purchased + getting-off venue” in a message. Once your bus seat is confirmed, get a stamp on your show ticket at the box office before the show begins. After the show, get on the bus by showing the stamp.

Audience members can follow Pingshan Theater’s WeChat by searching “坪山大剧院” (pinyin: pingshandajuyuan) to buy show tickets and look up upcoming shows.

Concert by Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra

Conductor Laszlo Kovacs will lead Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra to present Khachaturian’s “Sabre Dance,” Liszt’s “Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2,” Brahms’ “Hungarian Dance No. 5,” Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana Intermezzo,” some Chinese tunes and selected pieces from the Strauss family to celebrate Christmas and welcome the new year.

Violin concert by Yao Jue

Hong Kong String Orchestra’s artistic director Yao Jue will lead her orchestra to play Shostakovich’s “Chamber Symphony in C Minor,” “Butterfly Lovers Concerto” by Chen Gang and He Zhanhao, and five Hong Kong pop songs. Yao graduated from the Juilliard School in New York, and music critics have employed phrases such as “technically impressive and intensely moving,” “impeccable technique,” “captivating,” “poetic,” “stylish,” and “lustrous” to describe her performances. She plays a 1713 Stradivarius violin.

Concert ‘Schwanengesang’

“Schwanengesang” is the title of a collection of songs written by Franz Schubert at the end of his life and published posthumously. Set to poems by Ludwig Rellstab, Heinrich Heine and Johann Gabriel Seidl, the aptly titled “Swan Song” dwells on the theme of love and longing. The concert, presented by Bel Canto Singers from Hong Kong, will pair excerpts from Chinese poet Xu Zhimo’s works with “Schwanengesang,” interweaving the songs with readings of Xu’s poems and prose, taking the audience on an intensive journey down the road of love.

‘Notre Dame de Paris’

As a New Year gift for musical-goers, “Notre Dame de Paris,” a world-famous sung-through French musical, has made its return to China with a special version to mark the 20th anniversary of its debut in Paris.

Composed by Riccardo Cocciante and with lyrics by Luc Plamondon, the musical is set in Paris in 1482 during the reign of Louis XI and tells the story of the tragedy of Quasimodo, the deformed bell-ringer of the Cathédrale Notre Dame de Paris, who becomes obsessed with a beautiful gypsy named Esmeralda.

Several songs from the show, such as “Vivre,” “Belle” and “Le Temps des Cathédrales,” have been released as singles with huge success in French-speaking countries.

‘The Little Match Girl’

French musical “The Little Match Girl,” produced by Double D Productions, is a fantastic adventure full of twists and turns.
