The Spanish Ballet of Murcia will stage the classic opera “Carmen” as a flamenco dance show at the Shenzhen Poly Theater on Friday.
“Carmen” tells the story of love, jealousy and death between the soldier Don Jose and the gypsy Carmen. The passionate yet melancholic flamenco dance is the best form of expression for this half-angel, half-demon gypsy woman.
The Spanish Ballet of Murcia is renowned for the high level of skill, passion and art its dancers bring to performances. It is led by siblings Carmen and Matilde Rubio, whose credo is to protect and develop the Spanish music genre of flamenco. The Spanish Ballet of Murcia is the only dance troupe in Spain that blends flamenco and opera. Most of the operas presented by the dance troupe are derived from ancient Greek myths. Along its career, the company has performed in numerous theaters and participated in national and international festivals all around the world.
