In the spirit of Halloween, Happy Valley, Window of the World and Splendid China ? China Folk Culture Villages, three well-known theme parks in the Overseas Chinese Town in Nanshan District, are hosting Halloween festivals by presenting various haunted houses through Nov. 11.

At Happy Valley, there are 10 haunted houses that feature scary ghosts, witches, dead bodies and zombies waiting to haunt those brave enough to enter. There is a terrifying orphanage, and much more. Beware of ghosts who may try to grab you as you walk past to drag you to the underworld. Don’t become disoriented through the many twisting and turning passageways as terrible noises fill your ears. All you can do is scream! But don’t worry, other parts of the park are not as scary and are suitable for children of all ages.

At Splendid China ? China Folk Culture Villages, some haunted houses feature ancient Chinese ghosts and demons inspired by the Chinese horror novel “Strange Stories From a Chinese Studio,” which was published in 1740. The book, written by Pu Songling, is a collection of 500 supernatural tales and is filled with a fox-human romance, ghosts, zombies and demons.

Some haunted houses in the park are inspired by later ghost stories originating from the early 1900s in China.

The haunted houses at Window of the World are similar to those at Happy Valley. All the parks will offer cruises and free creepy face-painting services for horror fans at night.
