Free symphony concerts at Lianhua Hill

The city’s first Lianhua Hill Grass Music Festival, featuring ballads and classical music presented by three orchestras, will be held this weekend at Lianhua Hill.

The activity, organized by Futian District Government and local performance and ticketing company Juooo, will let music fans enjoy classical music free of charge. Tickets can be claimed at juooo.com.

The Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra (SSO) will present “Radetzky March,” “Moon River,” “O Sole Mio,” “Mamma Mia” and some Chinese pieces in the afternoon of Nov. 29.

The Evergreen Symphony Orchestra from Taiwan will perform Taiwanese folk songs, “Hungarian Dance No. 6,” “William Tell Overture,” “West Side Story Overture” and “The Blue Danube” on the evening of Nov. 29.

The Pizazz Symphony Orchestra from the United States will perform “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “Hungarian Dance No. 1,” “Hungarian Dance No. 5,” “In the Mood” and “Pomp and Circumstance Marches” on the evening of Nov. 30.

The Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra was established in 1982, and its artistic director has been German conductor Christian Ehwald since 2008. The orchestra has performed with prominent Chinese composer Tan Dun, pianist Lang Lang, Spanish tenor Jose Carreras, movie music master Erich Kunzel and pianists Li Yundi and Chen Sa.

The Evergreen Symphony Orchestra was founded by Chang Yung-Fa Foundation of Evergreen Group in 2001. The orchestra is famous for discovering talented Taiwanese players and promoting Taiwanese folk music.

The Pizazz Symphony Orchestra is comprised of professional musicians who bring a unique energy, passion, and commitment to their performances.
