Animated films “Magic Piano” and “The Chopin Shorts” will be shown accompanied by live piano performance at the Shenzhen Concert Hall in August.

“Magic Piano” tells the story of young Anna and her cousin Chip-chip as they set off on an adventure in search of Anna’s dad aboard a magic, flying piano. “The Chopin Shorts” is a series of four short animated films featuring lovable characters and slapstick humor.

Zhang Haotian, a young Chinese-Canadian pianist, will perform live compositions alongside the screenings of the films. This is a wonderful opportunity for children of all ages to experience music by Chopin, Mozart, Beethoven and Liszt in a unique and colorful setting, which is an entertaining, enriching experience for all.

The movies were produced by Hugh Welchman, who won the Cinefoundation for his first film “Crowstone” and produced two short films for Monty Python. Creating BreakThru Films with Alan Dewhurst in 2002, he has produced a feature-length documentary and several short films, won top festival prizes, twice made the official selection at Cannes and was shortlisted for a BAFTA.

Welchman was an associate producer for “Free Jimmy,” a CGI animated film and the winner of the Annecy Cristal. He was a producer on “Peter & The Wolf” and was on stage at the Academy Awards in 2008 to collect the Oscar for best animated short. He is currently involved in the production of several projects at BreakThru, including “Sh!” — a low-budget feature — and a series of animated films for mobile phones.
