French choreographer Thomas Lebrun will present his ballet show “Tel Quel!” in Shenzhen next week.

“Tel Quel!” is for all ages and has had success throughout the world since its creation in 2013. By questioning our eternal relationship with the body (intimate, conflicting, generous, introverted and extroverted), the choreographer, with the help of his four dancers, reflects on sensitive subjects from early childhood: looking at people for what they are, showing what you are, accepting differences, uniqueness, and their absence or their disappearance as forces of expression.

From appearance to conscience, from differentiation to acceptance of themselves and others, this ballet remains rooted in a script driven by action that adheres to the theatricality, humor and discrepancy that dance allows.

A remarkable dancer who created his company in 2000 and has headed up the National Choreographic Center in Tour since 2011, Lebrun is one of the best-known French contemporary choreographers. Lebrun interrogates our relationship with the norm, makes us smile, laugh and think and helps children of all kinds grow up.

For Lebrun, the questions of body and norm have long been a breeding ground for creation. He knows from experience how cruel and limiting the social rules of appearance can be. And what is true of adults is even more true of children, who early on have to contend with peer pressure and the implications of difference. The choreographer has headed the National Choreographic Center of Tours since 2012 and believes in dance’s power of conviction.

Through movements and the presence of bodies, he intends to underscore the absurd dictates of appearance, highlight the processes of exposure and withdrawal and enable the acceptance of differences. The result is this creation for four performers that parents are more than welcome to attend as well since the piece offers various possibilities of interpretation.
