English professional snooker player James Warren “Jimmy” White will visit Tavern Sports Bar in Shekou on Thursday, and guests are welcome to meet and play snooker against the legend.
Nicknamed “The Whirlwind” because of his fluid, attack style of play and popularly referred to as the “People’s Champion,” White is a six-time World Championship finalist, the 1980 World Amateur champion, the 2009 Six-red World champion, the 2010 World Seniors champion and the 1984 World Doubles champion with Alex Higgins.
White’s non-world championship achievements include the U.K. Championship, the Masters and the Nations Cup. A two-time winner of both the World Cup and the British Open, White was also the first left-handed player, and second player overall, to record a maximum break at the World Championship.
White had a cameo role as himself (as the World Billiards Champion) in Stephen Chow’s 1990 kung fu and billiard comedy film “Legend of the Dragon.”
