American trumpeter Chris Botti will give a jazz show Wednesday night at the Shenzhen Concert Hall. Sousou Cissoko and Maher Cissoko will perform Thursday and Vienna Boys’ Choir will perform Friday.
Botti won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Album in 2013. Four of his albums have reached the No. 1 position on the Billboard jazz albums chart.
Botti plays a Martin Committee large bore Handcraft trumpet made in 1939 and uses a No. 3 silver plated mouthpiece from Bach made in 1926, having recently retired his 1920 3C Bach mouthpiece. He uses a Leblanc Vacchiano Harmon mute from the 1950s.
Sousou Cissoko and Maher Cissoko duo line up well-known artists from Senegal and Sweden on kora, guitar, percussion and bass, combining influences from reggae, mbalax, folk, soul and blues. The combination of their rhythmic energy and intimate vocals makes their music unforgettable. Their original music style has made Sousou and Maher a well-known duo on many different stages in Scandinavia, at everything from world music to large pop festivals.
Vienna Boys’ Choir is the modern-day descendant of the boys’ choirs of the Viennese Court, dating back to the late Middle Ages. It has sought to update its image, recording pop music selections and adopting an alternative uniform to the sailor suits used since the 1920s that allows the boys to dance as they sing.
