A duo from the Netherlands will perform a free concert for locals Sept. 25. Fans will have the rare chance to listen to grandiose organ music live at the Shenzhen Concert Hall.
Leo van Doeselaar and Wyneke Jordans will bring a program featuring classic masters, including Bach’s “Toccata and Fugue in D Minor,” Mozart’s “Fantasy in F Minor,” Franck’s “Heroic Piece,” and Charles-Marie Widor’s “Toccata From Symphony No. 5.”
Doeselaar will also perform on organ Mendelssohn’s “Variations in D Minor,” Franck’s “Choral III,” and Bach’s “Fantasy and Fugue in G Minor.”
Doeselaar studied the organ with Albert de Klerk and piano with Jan Wijn at the Amsterdam Sweelinck Conservatory. Later, after obtaining his degrees, he was awarded the Prix d’Excellence in organ.
His recording with the Royal Concert Hall Orchestra in Amsterdam of Paul Hindemith’s “Kammermusik No. 7” won a Grammy Award. In 2007, he received the prestigious Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck Award for his contributions to organ culture.
Teaming up with Jordans as a piano duo since 1977, Doeselaar has appeared with orchestras and in recitals throughout Europe, Japan, India and the United States.
Both he and Jordans graduated from Amsterdam’s Sweelinck Conservatory in 1981 and played their graduate recital as a piano duo.
They have also recorded multiple CDs for Etcetera, Challenge Classics and Globe labels. Their extensive piano repertoire covers the rich musical tradition of both four hands and duos, as well as contemporary compositions and transcriptions from orchestral literature.
