What is On
Pianist Chantal Largier and mezzo-soprano Eva Wenniges will present “Clara, Robert and Brahms — A Story of Three,” a piano recital with vocal performances to depict the life story of German musician Clara Schumann and her relations with husband Robert Schumann.
Clara Schumann was considered one of the most distinguished pianists of the Romantic era. She exerted her influence over a 61-year concert career, changing the format and repertoire of the piano recital and the tastes of the listening public.
The program will include Chopin’s “Fantasie Impromptu, Op. 66,” Liszt’s “Dante Sonata,” Clara Schumann’s “Three Romances, Op. 21” and “Ballade No. 6” and Brahms’ “Rhapsody in G Minor, Op. 79, No. 2.”
Pianist Largier was a prize-winner at the 14th Youth Music Harmony Competition in Tokyo. With her experience as a soloist and chamber musician, Largier commands a broad repertoire that extends from the works of the Baroque to contemporary pieces. In 2012-2013 she collaborated with the Ensemble of the Zurich University of Arts on the project “Arc-en-Ciel,” which explores and performs contemporary music of a high caliber.
Mezzo-soprano Wenniges has appeared as a soloist in concerts internationally. Throughout her career she performed the solo parts of great works such as Mozart’s “Requiem” and Bach’s “Christmas Oratorio.”
Wenniges also succeeded academically both as a student and as an instructor. She held scholarships from different organizations such as the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and the L-Bank. In 2011-2015, Wenniges was a voice instructor at the University of Music, Trossingen in Germany.
