Swiss experimental post-rock band Leech will perform live in Shenzhen on Sunday as part of its first China tour. Catch them at B10 Live.
Founded in 1995, Leech is most known for incorporating experimental instruments into their rock-inspired riffs, and infusing floating, rhythmic melodies with an epic sound landscape.
Leech’s first EP “Instarmental” has only two tracks, but the experimental overtones brought the band much attention and helped label them as a pioneering force in rock. Two years later, Leech released the second album “Soundtrack to an Individual Emotion Picture Mindmovie” and launched a tour. In 2000, the band included vocals to their music for the first time in their third album “Zerotonine Days.” Over the next two years, Leech has cooperated with musicians from different areas and engaged in more music projects.
In the autumn of 2007, Leech issued the album “The Leech Stolen View” in Switzerland and in 2012, Leech released the album “If We Get There One Day, Would You Please Open the Gates?” By this time, Leech had moved away from their experimental exploration period, and these later albums enjoyed solid popularity in post-rock circles.
The band consists of members Urs Meyer (guitar), Marcel Meyer (guitar and piano), David Hofmann (bass and synthesizer), Serge A. Olar (synthesizer and drummer), Tobias Schlafli (keyboards) and Stefan Hell (percussion). Hailing from “the roof of Europe,” Leech has now been on-going for 22 years, contributing numerous tours and music projects to the post-rock scene and appearing in countless music festivals.
The upcoming performances will be their first in China. From Sept. 9 to 17, they will play gigs in Guangdong, Shanghai, Beijing, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Chongqing and Shaanxi, with Egopusher, a violin synthesizer from Switzerland, as the tour’s special guest.
