One of the best-known female voices in the German and Austrian musical theater scene, Pia Douwes will bring her solo concert to Pingshan Theater for the final stop of her debut China tour.
Born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Douwes has built an acclaimed musical theater career spanning more than three decades. In 1992, she took on the role of Elisabeth in the world premiere of the German-language musical “Elisabeth” in Vienna, marking her first major role in a large-scale musical production. She went on to reprise the role in the Dutch and German premieres of the musical.
Over the years, Douwes has portrayed a remarkable range of roles, including Velma Kelly in “Chicago” (in the Netherlands, Broadway and London’s West End); Grizabella in “Cats” (in the Netherlands, Austria and Russia); Eva Perón in “Evita” (in the Netherlands); Norma Desmond in “Sunset Boulevard” (in the Netherlands, Germany and Switezerland); Diana Goodman in “Next to Normal” (in Germany and Austria); and Mrs. Danvers in “Rebecca” (in Germany).
Away from the stage, Douwes has also devoted herself to nurturing the next generation of musical theater talent, giving masterclasses in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Finland and sharing her experience with young performers.
