What is On
The SatorDuo
There are concerts that entertain, and then there are those that transport you — inviting you to walk, note by luminous note, through two centuries of a country’s musical soul. “The Sound of Italy,” to be performed by the SatorDuo from Italy, is firmly the latter.
From the blazing, almost supernatural genius of Niccolò Paganini to the deep, timeless lyricism of Ennio Morricone, every phrase and cadence echoes with the spirit of Italy. As you experience “The Sound of Italy,” you will follow a dazzling path through the nation’s most beloved music.
Hailed as “one of the most exciting duos in Italy today,” SatorDuo — violinist Paolo Castellani and guitarist Francesco Di Giandomenico — are celebrated for their energy, emotional tension, and virtuosity.
Their accolades include first prize at the Le Note Sinfonie International Competition and first prize at the 15th Riviera Etrusca Competition. In 2020, they were invited to the prestigious Fundación Pablo Atchugarry Festival.
Beyond their dazzling performance schedule, SatorDuo has inspired world-renowned composers — such as Robert Hutmacher and Francesco Colasanto — to write works specifically for them. Their discography spans tango, Latin, and classical genres.
The Pingshan concert will weave together virtuoso showpieces, original works, and cinematic nostalgia. The program includes: Paganini’s “Sonata No. 1, Op. 64,” “Sonata Concertata in A Major, Op. 61” and “Romanza,” Castellani’s “Songoj de la Maro” and “Malagueña,” Monti’s “Czardas,” and Morricone’s “Playing Love Suite.”
