‘Spanish Fantasia’
Chinese classical guitarist Su Meng will collaborate with U.S. guitarist Manuel Barrueco, Brazilian guitarist Sergio Assad, Spanish guitarist Marco Antonio San Nicolas, Spanish dancers Miguel Angel Serrano and Alba Nicolas, Chinese dancer Wu Qian and Chinese drummer Gao Cheng for a concert incorporated with a stage performance directed by Zhou Ke. The musicians will perform enchanting pieces by Bach, Debussy, Schumann, Barrios, Albeniz, Bizet, Tan Dun and more.

‘Qiaopi’
The Gezai opera “Qiaopi” produced in Xiamen, Fujian Province, will be staged. It focuses on Chinese who left their native country to work across Southeast Asia in the 19th century. Qiaopi is the name given to the letters written home by Chinese emigrants which also functioned as remittances. Their key function was to preserve family ties. In 2013, UNESCO included qiaopi in its Memory of the World Register, which was established in 1992 to preserve the world’s documentary heritage. Gezai opera, with about 100 years of history, is rich in rustic character with lots of singing and little dialogue. The simple and moving melodies are easy to pick up. The lyrics in Fujian dialect are lively and catchy.

Cello recital
Hong Kong cellist Trey Lee will bring an evening of pieces by Chopin and Chinese composer Wang Liping. As the first Asian winner of the prestigious International Antonio Janigro Cello Competition, Lee has worked with esteemed conductors, composers and orchestras worldwide and released several albums under EMI which topped the classical charts. He studied at Harvard University, the New England Conservatory, Madrid’s Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofia and the Cologne Musikhochschule.

‘Stenographer’
The Chinese musical “Stenographer” follows the story of a 23-year-old stenographer named Shen Anna, an undercover agent in Chongqing in the 1930s-1940s. The musical was written and composed by Zhang Ran, who is known for the compositions he created for Meng Jinghui’s “The Murder of Hanging Garden.”
