Metro Line 16 recently completed a power-loaded test, marking the start of tests of all its operation systems and a step forward for its official operation scheduled before the end of the year.

Metro Line 16 runs 29.2 kilometers between Universiade Station in Longgang District and Tianxin Station in Pingshan District, passing by Universiade Town, Longgang CBD and Pingshan CBD. It will serve as a backbone traffic line, connecting the two districts in the city’s east.

Metro Line 16 will be extended southward in the future to connect with the Shenzhen-Shenshan intercity rail and Line 18. The 9.46-kilometer extension, Line 16’s Phase II, starts at Universiade Station and goes southward along Wanfu, Gongyuan and Shahe roads until reaching Jiaoyu Road in the Xikeng area. It has eight stations including two interchange stations with Line 19 at Yuanshan Station, and with Line 18 and the Shenzhen-Shenshan intercity rail at Anliang Station.

Meanwhile, Metro lines 12, 14 and the spur line of Line 6 will also open before the end of the year, bringing the total length of the city’s Metro network to over 500 kilometers.
