Another cultural salon hosted by Pingshan Library on Aug. 17 was lectured by Wang Xiaohui, a prestigious Chinese photographer.

Themed “Interdisciplinary Arts, a new life style,” the salon connected Wang with the audience through detailed stories about her artistic life.

Wang first used a short video to generalize her experience, how she integrates her life with the arts and how she has become an interdisciplinary artist.

She presented works completed during different periods of her life to help the audience understand her creative process.

Wang said photography is her first avenue for recording her life. She sees her selfies as a visual diary, which documented her appearance after a car accident that bruised her face. “A hundred kisses” is a series of photos taken by Wang in order to commemorate her husband Yu Lin, who died in the accident.

“Interdisciplinary methods are the new productive forces in art creation,” Wang explained. “My works are not confined to any mode, and that’s why I have devoted myself to interdisciplinary creation.”

Wang’s works cover a wide range, from film and documentary to sculpture, architecture and performance art.
