Construction has begun on the National Medical Device Industry Metrology Testing Center, a national-level innovation platform to be built in Pingshan District, injecting new momentum into Shenzhen’s high-end medical device sector.

The project will serve the industry across prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation, emphasizing coverage of the full industry chain, the full product life cycle, complete traceability, and forward-looking technological capabilities. It plans to establish six quality infrastructure (QI) research and testing centers, eight specialized laboratories, and three QI technology application demonstration platforms, aiming to become China’s largest and most comprehensive metrology testing service platform for the medical device industry.

As a key hub of biopharmaceuticals, high-end medical devices, and cell and gene industries — part of Shenzhen’s “20+8” industrial clusters — Pingshan is the core area of the city’s biopharmaceutical development and a major driver of intelligent manufacturing for high-end medical devices. Its strong industrial base provides an ideal foundation for the new testing center.

The Shenzhen National Bio-industry Base in Pingshan has already attracted more than 1,300 biopharmaceutical enterprises, with an average annual compound growth rate of 39.8% in enterprise numbers. The district hosts 68 innovation platforms, including key and engineering laboratories, technological innovation centers, and technology commercialization platforms.
