Local NewsStatistics show that average daily tourism revenue in Pingshan District during the New Year holiday (Jan. 1-3) rose 23% year-on-year, driven by a slate of cultural and tourism activities, lively sports events, and strong shopping promotions.
The centuries-old Hakka compound Xinqiao Ancestral Residence came alive with traditional qilin and waist-drum performances, Hanfu parades, and drone shows, revitalizing local heritage and boosting consumption. “Taking my child to experience Hakka intangible cultural heritage crafts and buying salt-baked chicken and Hakka New Year cakes at the market made this New Year celebration feel especially festive!” said Ms. Chen, a resident who participated in the Intangible Cultural Heritage Week at Xinqiao.

Cultural venues also drew large crowds. At Pingshan Theater, the comedy “Revizor” achieved more than 70% seat occupancy, and many audience members dined and shopped in nearby commercial areas afterward. At the Shenzhen Pingshan Changshou Dramaville, shadow-puppetry performances by national intangible cultural heritage inheritor Wei Jinquan attracted families, who tried making puppets and experienced the craft firsthand.
Other cultural sites, including Pingshan Library, Pingshan Art Museum, Pingshan Exhibition Gallery, and Pingshan Cultural House, were similarly busy. The Pingshan Cultural House hosted a New Year concert, while exhibitions such as “Wang Huangsheng: Foam Park” and the immersive “Van Gogh’s Flowers” became popular destinations, promoting positive interaction between exhibition attendance and local spending.
Sports events also supported the local economy. The Shenzhen Subdistrict Soccer Super League featured a friendly match, and Pingshan Soccer Park hosted youth games, driving customer traffic to nearby shops and restaurants.
