Chinese and expat residents gathered Dec. 30 for a New Year celebration in the square outside the Pingshan Theater, creating a warm, joyous atmosphere to welcome the New Year.
In the afternoon, Christine Bubeck and Stephan Klaus Bubeck, both from Brazil, were drawn to the Chinese songs performed by local residents. “It’s very nice to be surrounded by this atmosphere,” said Christine. “Although we speak different languages, the emotions in the melodies are the same,” she added. “It’s a lovely experience to celebrate the New Year here; we can enjoy the scenery,” Stephan said.

Usman Hameed Qureshi from Pakistan stepped forward to showcase his traditional attire during the event. “People here are very friendly, and I feel proud to present my country’s outfit in Pingshan,” he said.
Guqin player Zhuang Liluan performed traditional Chinese pieces and a pop song, prompting many Chinese and expat residents to sing together and creating an enchanting cross-cultural moment. As night fell, people danced together, turning the square into an interactive stage.

Pingshan Subdistrict plans to organize more cultural activities for locals and expats to foster warmth and make the city more vibrant and international.
