On Dec. 26, the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology released its 2025 list of China’s Top 100 Industrial Districts. Pingshan District ranked 19th, up 10 places from 2024.

Pingshan is a hub for advanced manufacturing and a testing ground for future industries in Shenzhen. In 2024, industrial enterprises above the designated size — those with annual operating revenue of at least 20 million yuan — generated more than 600 billion yuan in output, underscoring manufacturing as the district’s defining strength.

Pingshan’s new energy and intelligent connected vehicle industries generated nearly 465 billion yuan in output in 2024, with their added value accounting for more than 62% of the city’s total. Pingshan’s chip manufacturing output made up over 60% of Shenzhen’s total, and its photovoltaic battery equipment sector commanded a global market share exceeding 60%. The district is also home to nearly a quarter of Shenzhen’s high‑end medical device manufacturers.

In recent years, Pingshan has made significant progress in intelligent transformation and digital upgrading. It has cultivated one national-level smart manufacturing demonstration factory and two national-level exemplary smart manufacturing scenarios. Eighty-two local firms have been recognized as having reached smart manufacturing capability maturity Level 3 or higher, the second-highest ranking among Shenzhen’s districts. In the first half of the year, investment in industrial technological transformation rose by 283.9% year on year.

Pingshan has also advanced the strategic integration of AI with manufacturing, improving efficiency across smart manufacturing processes. During the 14th Five-year Plan period, the district’s average annual GDP growth rate ranked among the highest among all counties or districts in Guangdong.
