BYD’s car carrier, the “BYD Shenzhen” — the world’s largest car carrier ship — departed from Xiaomo International Logistics Port on July 8, carrying more than 6,800 BYD electric vehicles to Europe.
Previously, it had returned to the port July 7 after completing its maiden transoceanic voyage to Brazil, which lasted 70 days and covered over 30,000 kilometers. The ship departed from Taicang in East China’s Jiangsu Province, with 7,000 BYD electric vehicles on board, and arrived in Brazil on May 28. Brazil is BYD’s largest overseas market and BYD has led all Chinese automakers in investment growth in Brazil over the past two years.
Measuring 219.9 meters in length and 37.7 meters in width, the “BYD Shenzhen” features 12 decks and has the capacity to carry up to 9,200 vehicles simultaneously — an area equivalent to 20 soccer fields. In addition, Pingshan-based BYD also operates five vehicle carriers: the “Explorer No. 1,” the “BYD Changzhou,” the “BYD Hefei,” the “BYD Changsha” and the “BYD Xi’an,” having transported a total of more than 70,000 BYD new energy vehicles overseas.
The “BYD Shenzhen” is an LNG dual-fuel auto carrier, featuring cutting-edge green technologies such as high-efficiency, energy-saving main engines, a boil-off gas (BOG) recondenser, and anti-fouling, drag-reducing coatings, effectively improving the vessel’s energy efficiency and ensuring it meets the latest environmental standards set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
