A groundbreaking ceremony for Pingshan Sports Park was held March 28 in Pingshan District. As a key piece of sports infrastructure in Shenzhen, the project will feature a 15,000-seat gymnasium, a badminton training center, a mass fitness center, 100 high-standard badminton courts, and a sports-themed commercial street block.

The park is located near Jinlong Station on Shenzhen Metro Line 14. Covering an area of 127,000 square meters with a total construction area of 165,000 square meters, the project is expected to be completed in 2027.

Meanwhile, several members of China’s national badminton team held a training session with students in Pingshan and engaged in friendly matches with students from Shenzhen Technology University.

Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan, who secured the women’s doubles gold medal at the Paris Olympics last year, along with Lei Lanxi and Cheng Xing from the national team, showcased their skills and techniques during the friendly matches.

Despite the intensity of playing against Olympic champions and national team members, the Pingshan students expressed that they learned a lot and conveyed their hopes for future exchanges.

Zhang Jun, president of the Chinese Badminton Association, noted that the matches demonstrated the solid badminton foundation among Pingshan students. He expressed optimism about the development of badminton in Pingshan, citing its excellent infrastructure and the dedication of local residents.

Currently, Pingshan boasts 145 badminton courts, making it one of the most popular sports for residents. Over the past two years, Pingshan District has collaborated with the Chinese Badminton Association to host several competitions. Looking ahead, both parties plan to deepen their collaboration to foster a vibrant badminton culture in Pingshan.

The 15th National Games will be held in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and Pingshan District is seizing this opportunity to support Shenzhen in its goal of becoming a world-renowned sports city.
