Pingshan-headquartered auto company BYD sold over 4.27 million vehicles in 2024, with the majority being new energy passenger vehicles, according to domestic media reports. The company moved up one spot to the fifth in the global top-selling automaker rankings for 2024.
BYD sold 4.25 million new energy passenger vehicles, reflecting a significant increase of 41.1% from the previous year. Of these, more than 1.76 million were fully electric vehicles, while approximately 2.49 million were plug-in hybrids.
BYD’s overseas sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) also saw impressive growth, rising 71.8% year-on-year to 433,000 units last year. This highlights the company’s expanding presence in international markets.
BYD is among many NEV producers experiencing booming sales as China, which has the largest number of motor vehicles in the world, continues its transition toward greener technology. As tackling climate change becomes a global priority, NEVs play a critical role in reducing carbon emissions in the transportation sector.
