Pingshan River has recently been recognized in the 2024 list of provincial-level exemplary beautiful rivers and lakes released by the Department of Ecology and Environment of Guangdong Province.

The transformation of Pingshan River from a polluted ditch to a clean and beautiful river exemplifies the harmonious coexistence of humans, water, urban areas, and industries in Pingshan. The river's rehabilitation has also garnered numerous national engineering and water conservancy awards.

In the near-natural ecological restoration of the river, fish migration channels were constructed, native plants were planted, and features such as deep channels, shallow banks, and stepping stones were added to allow the river to flow in more diverse and natural ways.

The winding banks of the river are lined with artificial wetlands that connect the land and water, leading to a significant increase in biodiversity. Currently, the river is home to 53 fish species and 77 aquatic plant species, including 52 species of indigenous freshwater fish and 73 species of indigenous aquatic plants. The sight of swimming fish, abundant aquatic vegetation, and elegant egrets creates a picturesque scene in Pingshan, providing a public space for enjoyment and recreation.

Additionally, the Pingshan River Natural History Corridor features a 38-kilometer riverside walking trail that links wetlands with cultural venues such as the Dawan Ancestral Residence, Pingshan Cultural House, Pingshan Culture Center, and the Dongjiang Column Memorial Hall. This journey along the river offers a captivating showcase of both nature and culture.
