László Kövér, speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly, arrived in Shenzhen on Nov. 9 to lead a delegation to explore opportunities for significant technological and economic collaboration between Hungary and Shenzhen. This was Kövér’s second visit to China in seven years.

His first stop in Shenzhen was BYD’s headquarters in Pingshan District. The car company has made significant investments in Hungary. In December 2023, BYD announced its intention to establish a new energy vehicle manufacturing base in Szeged, Hungary, with operations expected to start in 2025. This project is anticipated to generate thousands of jobs.

BYD’s presence in Hungary began seven years ago when it constructed its first electric bus factory in Europe within the country. During his visit to BYD, Kövér expressed particular interest in the SkyShuttle intelligent rail transit system and BYD’s high-end new energy vehicle brand, Yangwang.

Kövér’s visit also included a stop at BTR New Material Group, where he learned about the company’s development, global strategy, and technological innovations. BTR, a leading new energy material research and manufacturing enterprise, has maintained the world’s largest market share in negative electrode materials for 14 consecutive years.

Kövér was particularly impressed by BTR’s 63.6% reduction in per-unit product energy consumption over seven years through technological innovation, which he called “a tremendous accomplishment.”
