Thirty-seven art enthusiasts showcased their works, ideas, and plans at the “Art Supermarket” space at Pingshan Art Museum on Oct. 19. The event is part of the art museum’s innovative “Art Takeaway” project.

Guided by the Culture, Media, Tourism, and Sports Bureau of Pingshan District’s commitment to organizing public art initiatives across communities, schools, universities, industrial parks, and factories, the Pingshan Art Museum introduced the “Art Takeaway” project in May 2023. By collaborating with residents, students, teachers, and industrial park employees, the initiative has fostered a sustainable public education network, exploring the history and life narratives of Pingshan in industrial parks, communities, schools, and factories.

Since its inception, the project has involved immersive field studies and community explorations, encouraging individuals from diverse backgrounds to uncover and document Pingshan’s unique attributes through engaging activities.

In July this year, the 37 selected art enthusiasts participated in art theory and creation technique training after a public call for submissions. Through 20 activities and eight survey and research projects, they transformed their observations and studies in Pingshan into artworks or actions, now showcased at the "Art Supermarket" on the first floor of the art museum. Many of their works, reflecting distinctive Pingshan characteristics, were crafted from repurposed everyday items, promoting a sustainable lifestyle.

Beyond merely displaying art, the "Art Supermarket" provides visitors with fresh insights into Pingshan’s culture, communities, history, and daily life. It also encourages connections among residents, stimulate creativity, and foster collaborative creations.
