A delegation of over 20 journalists from Central and Eastern European countries was impressed after a visit to Shenzhen, during which they witnessed the Chinese tech hub’s technological prowess.

The group, representing Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Slovakia and others, toured the facilities of tech giants BYD and Huawei.

Tihomir Ignatov, a reporter from Bulgarian National Television, was impressed with the visit to BYD’s headquarters in Pingshan. “It’s very impressive, and I’m shocked. This is the latest generation of high technology, and I hope to see a lot of these new technologies in Europe.”

Anagnostis Ananiadis, founder of Greek news website portnet.gr, echoed the sentiment, saying, “BYD is an impressive manufacturer of modern electric cars. You can see the skills and efforts in these cars.”

According to Ananiadis, Shenzhen is a big metropolis with many technological achievements. “China is investing to make better phones, better cars, and better solutions, and Shenzhen companies have a big role to play in terms of contribution.”

Brem-Nagy Marton, a reporter from the Hungarian newspaper Magyar Hírlap, highlighted the collaboration between BYD and Hungary in building production facilities in the Central European country.

“BYD uses cutting-edge technology and they have interest in Hungary. I’m really glad that we are facing a better future together,” the Hungarian reporter said, adding that the pursuit of a greener world is not only crucial for Hungary but also Europe. “It’s quite amazing what Shenzhen has achieved in 40 years compared to what has happened in Europe and in my country over the last 40 years,” Marton said.

Pavleta Davidova, a reporter from the Bulgarian daily newspaper 24 Chasa, observed that Shenzhen-based companies are producing high-quality products. “I have a Huawei phone and I’m still using it.”

At the invitation of the Secretariat for Cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European Countries, the delegation also visited Guangzhou and Zhuhai on May 19-20.
