At the Second Digital Government and Digital GBA Achievement Expo held in Guangzhou on Dec. 8-10, 2023, a 5G government service terminal was showcased and some Pingshan citizens tried the machine by checking their personal social security accounts. This is exemplary of Pingshan’s achievement in the integration of 5G technology and government services.

In the past, Pingshan government service network users couldn’t access the network when they were outside Pingshan; using virtual private network to log on was slow and insecure. Now with the nationwide roaming capability of the 5G government service network, Pingshan users can efficiently and safely access the network anytime and anywhere, greatly enhancing user experience.

Nationwide roaming through the 5G government service network also facilitates cross-regional communication and cooperation, strengthening Pingshan’s collaboration with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the whole country, particularly in the digital government and smart city sectors. Furthermore, through extended services of the 5G government service network, development in Pingshan’s leading industries is making an impact nationwide.

Leveraging the advantages of 5G, such as high bandwidth, high speed and low latency, and the network slicing technology, Pingshan’s 5G government service network has addressed the shortcomings of traditional government office networks. It has now integrated more than 40 government applications, including government WeChat, mobile office, government service terminals and 5G cameras, covering more than 1,000 users and enhancing government services..

Pingshan has installed multiple government service terminals in the district for residents. Ms. Liu, a resident, couldn’t help but praise the convenience: “It’s so convenient. Just place your ID card on the government service terminal, and from logging in to printing out social insurance and property certificates, the entire process takes less than two minutes. In the future, there’s no need to run all over the city to get things done.”

A community worker at Shijing Subdistrict agreed that “After using the 5G government service network, whether uploading photos or videos, the process is incredibly smooth, which has significantly improved office efficiency.”

A pollution source monitoring staffer remotely orders an unlicensed company to stop construction in Pingshan.

As the first district in Guangdong to launch 5G base stations and among the first areas in Shenzhen to complete the 5G construction, Pingshan is actively promoting 5G applications in various sectors. For example, at the Shenzhen Municipal Ecological Environment Bureau’s Pingshan Management Bureau’s Pollution Source Monitoring Center, staff members discovered through high-definition monitoring via the 5G government service network that a construction site was still operating at noon. It was found that the construction company had not obtained a construction noise emission permit for lunchtime or nighttime work. The staff immediately remotely ordered the unlicensed company to stop construction.

A total of 44 similar remote monitors had been installed in Pingshan by the end of October 2023, resulting in a substantial reduction in construction noise complaints. The cameras at construction sites can be quickly connected to the video perception platform through the 5G government service network, enabling intelligent supervision. Meanwhile, the monitoring equipment can be reused in other construction sites, which is cost-saving and eliminates the need to install traditional fiber optic cables.

Pingshan, with its many mountainous areas comprising 426 slopes and a large amount of forest, requires high demands for real-time monitoring and emergency response. The 5G government service network can also offer assistance in managing emergencies and addressing natural disasters, such as floods and landslides.
