Two projects in Pingshan, the Planning for Park City Construction in Pingshan and the Pingshan River Master Plan, have received Honourable Mention awards at the IFLA ASIA-PAC LA Awards 2023.

The Planning for Park City Construction in Pingshan project will add a new batch of mountain parks to connect existing parks, creating a 40-kilometer natural recreational mountain corridor around the outskirts of the urban area. This allows residents to have easier access to and better enjoyment of nature.

In the project, the Songzikeng Mountain Corridor will be built from Songzikeng to Tiantou Mountain. While strictly protecting farmland and permanent basic agricultural land, the plan will develop a 10-kilometer pastoral scenic zone for ecological agriculture. This approach incorporates agriculture into the city and fully utilizes the pastoral area for its technological, cultural and ecological values.

Three major park clusters, namely Biling, Yanziling and Julong Mountain, will be built, along with the construction of greenways and shaded trails, to integrate the 15 existing nature trails in the district. The roadside green belt will be improved and roads connecting parks are also part of the plan. With suburban parks and trails, a roaming network is being formed, offering a vibrant experience for residential communities, commercial business districts and high-tech industrial zones.

The Pingshan River Master Plan aims to create a connected riverside trail system, minimize flood risks, and construct a 16-kilometer ecological network to enhance the landscape along the Pingshan River and create a lively waterfront promenade.

Along the riverside greenway, four distinctive featured areas will be built: Around Biling Park and between Maluan Mountain and Qingfengling, a community waterfront area will center around ecological restoration and Hakka culture; in central Pingshan, a waterfront space will be themed around human life and commerce; in the Yanzi Lake area, the greenway will be integrated with public recreational activities; and around Shenzhen Technology University, a cultural and educational atmosphere will be featured.

The IFLA Asia-Pacific Region Landscape Architecture Awards, also known as the IFLA ASIA-PAC LA Awards, provide an international platform to showcase and promote the achievements and work of landscape architects in the Asia-Pacific region.
