A group of Shenzhen Technology University students in Pingshan District traveled to Kashgar Prefecture in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region during the summer holiday to volunteer as teachers. The students used their knowledge in automotive technology to teach local students about the history of car development, car structure and car business. They also organized fun activities to help children explore the structure and design of cars.

“Through model demonstrations, visual explanations and hands-on observations, the children have acquired knowledge about the inner workings of car engines, chassis and bodies. We also collaborated on designing and creating simple car models, enabling them to develop practical skills and unleash their creativity,” said Tang Zhiwen, a Shenzhen Technology University student.

“I find it very meaningful to be able to integrate my knowledge into this summer educational event. After school, the children invited us to their homes, and I was pleasantly surprised by their warm hospitality. The fruits they offered were delicious, and the mutton was exceptionally tender,” he added.

“I have learned many English words through the English classes provided by the university students. I aspire to study hard and become a car racer as I grow up,” said a local fifth grader.

The Shenzhen Technology University students also interviewed local village officials and long-serving volunteer teachers. “I would like to contribute my skills and efforts to the remote areas in the future,” said Tang.
