The Panlong Ancestral Residence Site-specific Art Season was launched Aug. 5 at the residence in Longtian Subdistrict, Pingshan, unveiling exhibitions, markets and community activities that are injecting new vitality into the Hakka compound built in 1864.
At a forum held in a room with windows adorned with traditional patterns and walls with old reliefs, dozens of artists and prominent cultural experts discussed old architecture preservation, subdistrict cultural event curation and Hakka culture research. The forum was attended by over 100 local residents, thereby enhancing public understanding and awareness of ancient architectural culture, Hakka culture, intangible cultural heritage, community culture, calligraphy and painting art, as well as the revitalization of historical spaces.

A market selling creative cultural products, such as handmade painted paper fans, handmade ceramic cups and bowls, and paper-cut lanterns, attracted throngs of residents to experience the charm of intangible cultural heritage. At the residence’s cultural square, there were performances of intangible cultural heritage programs, contemporary folk music, and Hakka hill songs, which won rounds of applause from the audience. The melodious sounds of flute, pipa and guzheng, accompanied by graceful singing and dancing, flowed like a refreshing breeze, enchanting the audience. An exhibition featuring works by artists-in-residence and the Panlong Art Workshop also opened Aug. 5.

The Panlong Ancestral Residence Site-specific Art Season aims to infuse traditional culture into modern society and combine contemporary art forms with local Hakka culture. The event will enable more people to understand Pingshan's culture and the essence of Hakka culture.
In recent years, Pingshan has emphasized the inheritance and revitalization of Hakka culture, exploring the interaction between tradition and innovation in the public’s daily lives. Through protective renovations on historical buildings such as the Panlong Ancestral Residence, Pingshan's public cultural space has been expanded and the historical heritage of the urban area has been inherited, benefiting the cultural lives of the public.
