A total of 31,800 fresh graduates have come on board at BYD since the start of 2023, 61.3% of whom have master’s or doctoral degrees, and 80.8% of whom will work in research and development (R&D) positions.
The Pingshan-based automaker has been hiring research employees in electronics and electronic controls, new energies and semiconductors, to be based mainly in Shenzhen, Shanghai and Xi’an, according to a job post on its official website.
This hiring drive comes as BYD is continuously moving to shore up its R&D. Before this year’s campus recruitment, BYD already had 69,700 R&D engineers and over 28,000 patents.

The company has also launched a series of core technologies in new energy vehicles (NEVs), such as the Blade Battery, DM-i super hybrid, e-platform 3.0 and CTB (cell-to-body) battery integration, leading to a surge in its NEV sales and driving forward the company’s revenue performance. In 2022, its revenue was 424.06 billion yuan, up 96.2% year on year.
BYD initiated a base for cultivating postdoctoral talents in 2017. By 2023, it had formed three postdoctoral training bases in Shenzhen, Chongqing and Xi’an, with the number of trainees increasing year after year. Over the past five years, BYD has collaborated with universities, including the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Shenzhen Advanced Technology Research Institute, University of Science and Technology of China and Tsinghua University, to train over 300 postdoctoral researchers in 14 science and engineering disciplines and 16 mobile stations. These talents have become the backbone of BYD’s scientific research, technology development, and innovation.
