The 2023 Shenzhen International Biomedical Industry Innovation and Development Conference will be held at the Yanzi Lake International Convention and Exhibition Center in Pingshan District on July 27-29, according to a press conference.

Domestic and international academicians, enterprise presidents, former FDA experts, and professors and presidents from local hospitals and universities will share insights at a main forum and nine sub-forums on national medicine and health policies, in vitro diagnostic products, innovative medical devices, information technology, bio-technology, future healthcare, new medicines and investment.

More than 1,000 onsite participants of the three-day conference are expected, while online visits are projected to surpass 50,000.

Statistics show that in 2022, Shenzhen’s pharmaceutical enterprises’ revenues reached 48.7 billion yuan, with six Shenzhen companies listed in China’s Top 100 Pharmaceutical Enterprises in 2022. In recent years, Shenzhen has vigorously developed the biopharmaceutical industry by introducing favorable industry policies and accelerating the construction of innovative platforms such as the Shenzhen Medical Academy of Research and Translation and the Shenzhen Bay Laboratory.

Over 500 innovative organizations at various levels have been established in the biopharmaceutical field in the city. Additionally, a national-level clinical medical research center, four provincial-level centers, and 14 municipal-level centers have also been established to support building the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area into an international hub for scientific and technological innovation.

Currently, an advanced biotechnologymanufacturing cluster with biopharmaceuticals, high-end medical devices and health products has been formed in Pingshan. With an annual increase of over 120 new biotech companies, the total number of companies now exceeds 1,000. The average annual growth rate of output value is more than20%. It has attracted leading companies such as Sanofi Pasteur and Sinopharm Zhijun, as well as innovative enterprises like Pregene and HwaGen.

According to the press conference, together with the biomedical industry conference held every summer in Pingshan, an international biopharmacy industry forum will be held there every winter.

The construction of the Dapeng Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Innovation Demonstration Zone for Life and Health was also introduced at the press conference. The zone is an innovative platform planned jointly by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Shenzhen Municipal Government. It will focus on developing three strategic emerging industries: biopharmaceuticals, medical devices, and the health industry, as well as two future industries: cellular and genetic technologies, and neuroscience and neuromorphic intelligence.
