Domestic museum directors and natural history experts gathered in Pingshan on July 13-14 for the Shenzhen Natural History Museum’s campaign of soliciting exhibits from around the world.
Currently under construction in the Yanzi Lake area in Pingshan, the museum is one of the city’s 10 new landmark cultural facilities. The museum will cover a 42,000-square-meter area with a floor area of 100,000 square meters, while its indoor exhibition area is nearly 34,000 square meters. When completed, it will be a large, comprehensive and world-leading museum of natural history.
To meet the needs of display and collection, the museum is currently soliciting exhibits from around the world, including minerals, fossils, living organisms and items related to human history.

At the two-day conference, academician Yang Huanming from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and other esteemed experts from organizations such as the China Science and Technology Museum, Zhejiang University, National Zoological Museum of China, Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, Zhejiang Museum of Natural History and Guangdong Museum, shared their valuable insights for the construction of the Shenzhen Natural History Museum.
Dotted with reservoirs, rivers and mountains, Pingshan has been rated as a National Demonstration Zone for Ecological Conservation. The great appeal of its natural landscape lies in the breathtaking Maluan Mountain with its vast areas of virgin forests and the largest natural waterfalls in the city, as well as the magnificent Pingshan River, one of the five major rivers in Shenzhen that runs through the district.
Currently, Pingshan has built 15 trails along which people can learn about nature. Along the trails which have a total length of 106 kilometers, there are 408 field observation and study points and 1,200 naturelearning boards. Additionally, the “坪山全域自然博物” WeChat miniprogram integrates various functions, including a navigationmap, 408 onlinecourses, texts, audio displays, images, species identification, a species database, and routefeatures.
