Autonomously sweeping roads along pre-planned routes, deftly avoiding obstacles, recognizing traffic lights and parking themselves, driverless sanitation vehicles have been put into trial use in Pingshan, aligning with the district’s policy on commercializing intelligent connected vehicles throughout the entire region.

Since the beginning of this year, Pingshan District has carried out a driverless sanitation pilot project on streets and in urban villages in six subdistricts, utilizing various models of autonomous sanitation equipment. The goal is to achieve round-the-clock, all-weather cleaning and maintenance of complex sections and conditions on roads, thereby improving efficiency and quality while reducing potential safety and health risks for sanitation workers, pedestrians and other vehicle traffic.

Currently, two driverless sanitation trucks have been put into pilot operation on Pingshan Boulevard, Hekang Road and Lanzhu Road West, with additional small autonomous sanitation machines deployed on Pingshan Central Park greenways, Liwu Village in Shijing Subdistrict, sidewalks in Kengzi Subdistrict, non-motor vehicle lanes in Maluan Subdistrict and roads in Longtian and Biling subdistricts.

To enhance work efficiency, Pingshan District has utilized such technologies as the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, mobile internet, and geographic information system (GIS) to ensure intelligent management. This has enabled real-time monitoring and achieving intelligent supervision throughout the entire sanitation process. Currently, all 240 sanitation trucks in the district have been equipped with Beidou satellite positioning and 4G real-time video monitoring. This enables accurate recording of their routes, frequency, status and speed. Intelligent calculations can also be conducted to evaluate the coverage and compliance rates of road cleaning and sprinkling vehicles. Automated alerts are triggered for insufficient work volume, and comprehensive monitoring of violations and vehicle operations is ensured through the 360-degree panoramic video surveillance.

This year, Pingshan District has also introduced environmentally friendly and clean-energy sanitation equipment. A total of 261 large and small sanitation vehicles including pure electric washing and sweeping vehicles, high-pressure cleaning vehicles, multi-function dust suppression vehicles (fog cannon vehicles), road maintenance vehicles, small pure electric sweeping vehicles, high-pressure flushing machines, and high-pressure cleaning machines have been added in the district.
