On June 18, Pingshan District and China Automotive Technology and Research Center Co. Ltd. (CATARC) signed a contract, which includes the construction of a national-level intelligent connected vehicle (ICV) inspection and hosting the World Automobile Standards and Innovative Conference. The two parties will embark on a new chapter in the high-quality development of ICVs.

Pingshan is the only administrative district in Shenzhen that combines the functions of “research and design + production and manufacturing” in the ICV industry. The new energy vehicle (NEV) and ICV industry is one of Pingshan’s three leading industries. With the national NEV base in the district and underpinned by BYD, the district has formed a complete industry chain with research and manufacturing capability spanning from batteries, motors, electric controls to whole vehicle manufacturing.

Established in 1985, CATARC is an independent automotive engineering technology research and service organization in China with significant influence in the industry. Under the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, CATARC possesses a vast automotive technology laboratory and scientists for automotive industry R&D, manufacturing and services.

With the contract, these high-end innovative elements of the automotive industry value chain will gather in Pingshan. As the production and sales scale of NEV companies is expanding, Pingshan companies’ demands for automotive technology R&D, product testing and certification is increasing rapidly. The cooperation between CATARC and Pingshan will not only provide services but also offer support in other sectors related to the automotive industry chain and industrial policies, helping Pingshan build an industrial cluster for ICVs.
