Pingshan has recently authorized a robotic taxi service to begin charging passengers for driverless rides in some areas of the district.

The service is jointly provided by Apollo Go, a driverless taxi service platform of Baidu, and Pengcheng Electric, an electric taxi enterprise in Shenzhen. The cruising routes cover the BYD Industrial Park, Pingshan Cultural Center and other areas with a high demand for transport services.

Residents can book a ride through the mobile phone app “萝卜快跑” or the WeChat mini-program of the same name.

Pingshan in recent years has been devoted to developing its intelligent connected vehicle industry. Last December, it issued a district-level policy, the first of its kind in China, to open up the whole district for intelligent connected vehicles and pilot the commercialization of driverless vehicles in the district.

Thus far, Pingshan has granted approval to Apollo Go, Pengcheng Electric and AutoX to operate pilot commercial robotic taxi services in the district.
