The eighth Shenzhen International Biomedical Industry Summit and 2022 Shenzhen Biomedical Industry Week will kick off Monday at Yanzi Lake International Convention and Exhibition Center in Pingshan District, according to information released at a news conference held at Civic Center in Futain District on Thursday.

The summit, themed “Gathering Development Partners in Bay Area, Biomedicine Creates the Future,” also includes other activities to be held in Futian, Nanshan, Luohu, Longgang, Pingshan and Guangming districts and Dapeng New Area to display Shenzhen’s comprehensive strength in the biomedical industry and to become a platform for scientific and industrial innovation and development exchanges.

China’s renowned respiratory disease expert Zhong Nanshan will deliver a speech at the summit’s opening ceremony.

The activities will be organized in various forms such as a keynote speech and roundtable dialogue to focus on new mechanisms, new technologies, new trends, and new futures of biomedicine.

Shenzhen has implemented a slew of measures to support the development of the biomedical industry this year and aims to build itself into a world-renowned biotechnology innovation center and biomedical industry cluster.

In the first three quarters of 2022, Shenzhen’s biomedical and health industry cluster achieved an industrial added value of 48.78 billion yuan (US$6.99 billion), with high-end medical devices posting a rapid double-digit growth.

As of now, Shenzhen has 63 new drugs approved by the National Medical Products Administration in 2022 for clinical trials and the applications for 24 generic drugs have been handled, according to information released at the conference.
