Metro Line 14, the first Metro line in Pingshan District, will be put into operation Friday. More public transport services will also be provided to link the new line with other areas in the district.

The 50-kilometer line runs through Futian, Luohu, Longgang and Pingshan districts. It starts from Gangxia North Station in Futian and ends at Shatian Station in Pingshan. A trip from the first to the last station will take around 55 minutes.

Among its 18 stations, six are in Pingshan, including the Jinlong, Pingshanwei, Pingshan Square, Pingshan Center, Kengzi and Shatian stations.

According to a staffer from the district’s transportation authority, a total of 56 bus routes involving 941 buses will be put into service to connect the six stations with other areas in Pingshan.

Regularly, major bus routes involving the stations will be operated at nine- to 10-minute intervals. However, during rush hours, the intervals will be cut to five to seven minutes.

Additionally, the first buses in the morning will arrive at a Metro station five minutes prior to the first train, and the last buses at night will depart 15 minutes later than the last train.

As per requirement to set up at least one bus stop within a 100-meter distance from a Metro station, four more bus stops have been added around the Jinlong, Pingshan Sqaure and Pingshan Center stations.

Along with the improved bus services, Pingshan is also expected to have its first batch of shared bikes after the Metro line begins service. The number of shared bikes to be put into circulation will depend on the progress of road restoration projects.

Ten roadside drop-off and pickup zones for taxis, private cars and ride-hailing vehicles are also designated around the Jinlong, Pingshan Square and Kengzi stations.

A total of 185 bilingual sign boards to help people find the Metro stations are also set up at sites as far as 800 meters away from a station.
