QR code payment for Metro riders
Metro riders in Shenzhen can use their mobile phones to pay their fares by scanning the WeChat QR codes at the exit turnstiles of Metro stations.
Riders need to download the Shenzhen Metro app (深圳地铁APP), Shenzhen Metro e-commuting miniapp (深圳地铁e出行), or Tencent miniapp WeChat Transport Code (腾讯乘车码) to tie their personal information so they can generate their own ride codes.
Riders can have their codes scanned when they are at the entrance turnstiles and pay their fare when they exit. The fare will be deducted directly from the rider’s account.
Shenzhen Tong
It is highly recommended to obtain a Shenzhen Tong card for public transport use in Shenzhen.
The Shenzhen Tong card is a contactless stored value card that provides customers a simple, safe and secure way to pay. It can be used to pay fares on the metro and most buses in Shenzhen. The Shenzhen Tong card can be purchased and recharged at metro stations, some grocery stores, as well as Shenzhen Tong outlets.
To obtain a Shenzhen Tong card is free but passengers need to pay a 20-yuan deposit, which can be refunded when the card is returned. To return Shenzhen Tong cards, please visit the Shenzhen Tong customer service sites across Shenzhen at Laojie Station, Convention and Exhibition Center Station or Bao'an Center Station.
Bus riders using Shenzhen Tong cards can enjoy discounts of up to 35 percent. Metro passengers using Shenzhen Tong cards enjoy a 5 percent discount.
Bus and Metro riders can also use the "深圳通+" miniapp on WeChat to pay for their fares.
