To help residents quickly access testing services for early detection and timely treatment of dengue and chikungunya, the Shenzhen Municipal Public Hygiene and Health Commission has coordinated with medical institutions citywide to increase the number of testing sites.

The Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has launched a feature on its official WeChat accounts (IDs: “szcdcepi” or “szcdcwx”) that enables users to locate testing sites for the dengue virus and chikungunya virus. Alongside this, the CDC has issued prevention and control reminders, urging residents who experience fever, rash, or joint pain to seek medical attention promptly and to implement effective mosquito prevention and control measures.

To find testing sites, open the Shenzhen CDC official WeChat account, click on “便民服务” (Convenient Services) in the menu, then select “登革病毒检测点” (Dengue Testing Sites) or “基孔病毒检测点” (Chikungunya Testing Sites), and your nearest testing sites will appear on a map based on your location. You can then click on “查看列表” (View List) to see the full list of nearby testing sites.

To find testing sites in Pingshan District, type “坪山” (Pingshan) in the search box at the top right corner to view available locations.

Tips for preventing chikungunya infection:

The best way to prevent chikungunya infection is to protect yourself from mosquito bites. Vaccination is also recommended for travelers visiting tropical and subtropical areas where Aedes mosquitoes are prevalent.

  • Eliminate stagnant water. Mosquito larvae primarily breed in small containers of stagnant water, such as water-cultivated plant bottles, jars, pots, vases, tree holes and bamboo tubes. It’s important to clear standing water to eliminate mosquito breeding sites. It is recommended to regularly change water and clean plant containers at least once a week, and avoid leaving water in the saucers under flower pots.

  • Install screen doors, window screens and use mosquito nets in bedrooms.

  • Keep mosquito coils, electric swatters, and mosquito lamps at home for use when needed.

  • Wear long sleeves and pants, and apply mosquito repellent outdoors.

  • Avoid prolonged stays in shaded outdoor areas, grasslands and near bushes.
