Every second counts during an earthquake!

To receive earthquake alerts, WeChat users in Guangdong can search for the miniprogram “南粤地震预警”. After opening the miniprogram, click “开启地震预警” (Enable Earthquake Early Warning) and grant permission for “地震预警通知” (Earthquake Early Warning Notifications) and “获取位置” (Access Location). Once set up, you will receive early earthquake alerts directly on your phone if an earthquake occurs. 

You can also receive alerts via the WeChat miniprogram “中国地震台网” (China Earthquake Networks), an official and authoritative earthquake early-warning platform jointly launched by the China Earthquake Networks Center under the China Earthquake Administration.

Shenzhen’s emergency management bureau advises residents to familiarize themselves with the locations of nearby emergency shelters and to prepare an emergency rescue kit containing drinking water, food, medicines, and a flashlight. When indoors, take cover beside sturdy furniture or in the corners of load-bearing walls.

What to do after receiving an earthquake alert?

• With a 3-second early warning: If indoors, take cover near a sturdy object, such as under a table or beside a bed; if outdoors, move away from buildings.

• With a 5-second early warning: If you are in a bungalow, move to an open area outside.

• With a 10-second early warning: If you are on the first or second floor of a building, evacuate quickly to the outdoors.

• With a 15-second early warning: If you are on a lower floor of a building, exit the building immediately; if you are on a higher floor, take shelter nearby.
