Guidelines for safe use of gas

Improper use of gas in our daily life can lead to safety hazards. It is essential to remember the following safety rules:

Install combustible gas alarms

When a combustible gas alarm detects high concentrations of gas in a room, it will alert you and automatically shut off the gas valve to ensure safety. If a combustible gas alarm is not installed or is incorrectly positioned, gas leaks may go undetected, posing safety risks.

Use gas stoves with flameout protection devices

When using gas in the kitchen, always be cautious to prevent boiling liquids from extinguishing flames or wind from blowing them out, as this can lead to gas leaks and accidents. Gas stoves equipped with flameout protection devices can automatically cut off the gas supply when the flame is accidentally extinguished, helping to prevent leaks.

Ensure ventilation

Kitchens or other rooms using gas should be well-ventilated, and gas appliances should have exhaust ducts. Poor ventilation can cause gas accumulation in the event of a leak, increasing the risk of accidents.

Do not install, modify, or dismantle gas facilities and metering devices by yourself

Improper installation of gas equipment can lead to damage or leaks, potentially resulting in fires or explosions. Repairs, replacements, or dismantling of gas equipment must be carried out by qualified professionals.

Do not use others as gas hoses

Do not use water, medical, or other hoses as gas hoses. Ensure that the connection between the gas hose and the appliance is secure, and regularly check for leaks.

Establish a gas safety management system and operating procedures

Workplace gas users should establish safety management systems, enhancing training for personnel on gas safety knowledge and operational skills.

Additional precautions:

1. Water heaters, stoves, pressure reducers, and gas hoses must be compliant with national regulations.

2. Gas valves should have clearly marked open and close indicators; please close the valve after use.

3. Gas pipes should not be wrapped or covered; do not hang heavy objects on or above gas pipes.

4. Do not store flammable or explosive materials around gas stoves.

5. Gas pipes and connection hoses should be secured with pipe clamps.

6. Regularly check the hoses and joints connecting to appliances; replace any aging or loose hoses immediately. Gas appliances that have exceeded their lifespan should be replaced promptly.

7. Purchase gas cylinders from licensed manufacturers; use gas cylinders in an upright position, avoid strong vibrations, do not expose them to direct sunlight, and do not place items on top of gas cylinders.

8. The simultaneous use of pipeline gas and gas cylinders, or storing gas cylinders in a room that contains pipeline gas, is prohibited.

In case of gas leakage:

Do not switch on or off any electrical appliances, do not change clothes indoors, and do not use telephones or mobile phones. First, turn off the gas valve, open windows, and leave the area with the gas leak. Once you are outside, call the Shenzhen Gas emergency hotline at 0755 25199999.

In case of gas poisoning:

Immediately open all windows and doors, turn off the gas valve, and remove any unconscious individuals from the room for fresh air. Call 120 for medical assistance and, if breathing or heartbeat has stopped, perform artificial respiration and chest compressions. If possible, seek treatment at a hospital equipped with a hyperbaric oxygen chamber.
