Checkpoints in Shenzhen

Shenzhen’s checkpoints offer comprehensive functions and contend with high rates of passenger and cargo turnover. They also serve as important transportation hubs connecting the city with its neighbor, Hong Kong. Here is the information you need to the checkpoints in Shenzhen, covering land and sea travel.

Luohu Port

Luohu Port is one of the busiest land border-crossings between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, and one of the most convenient with seamless connection between Shenzhen Metro Line 1 and Hong Kong MTR East Rail Line. Official figures show that about an average of 100 million people cross the border through Luohu Checkpoint annually.

Opening hours: 6:30 a.m.-12 a.m.

Metro: Line 1 to Luohu Station (罗湖站) 

Wenjindu Port

Dubbed Hong Kong’s “green lifeline,” Wenjindu Port has served as a major gateway for the supply of produce from the Chinese mainland to Hong Kong. Fresh vegetables, fruits, frozen meats and livestock passing through this checkpoint account for 80% of the daily supply of such consumer goods to Hong Kong.

Opening hours: 7 a.m.-10 p.m.

Metro: Line 9 to Wenjin Station (文锦站)

Shatoujiao Checkpoint

Adjacent to Yantian Port and Shatoujiao Bonded Zone, Shatoujiao Checkpoint is currently under reconstruction.

Huanggang Checkpoint

Huanggang Checkpoint is a comprehensive road crossing for travelers. There have been a lot of cross-border buses commuting between Shenzhen and various destinations in Hong Kong at this checkpoint. Open around the clock, the checkpoint is a very good option for late-night border-crossing travelers. 

Opening hours: 24 hours daily

Metro: Line 7 to Huanggang Checkpoint Station (皇岗口岸站)

Shenzhen Bay Port

Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint is a popular checkpoint for border-crossing people living in west Shenzhen. It has the immigration facilities of the Hong Kong side co-located in the same passenger terminal building with the mainland side. This allows passengers and vehicles for departure and arrival customs clearance to take place within a short distance. Cross-border buses are available from Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint to various destinations in Hong Kong such as Jordon, Tsim Sha Tsui, Victoria Harbor and Disneyland. Shenzhen Metro Line 13 that starts at Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint is slated to start service in 2025.

Opening hours: 6:30 a.m.-12 a.m. every day for individual travelers, 24 hours daily for cargo inspection

Metro: Line 2 to Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint Station (深圳湾口岸站) 

Futian Port

Futian Port is a popular checkpoint for border crossing among travelers for its convenient direct link of Shenzhen Metro with Hong Kong MTR East Rail Line.

Opening hours: 6:30 a.m.-10:30 p.m.

Metro: Line 4 or 10 to Futian Checkpoint Station (福田口岸站)

West Kowloon Station Port of Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link

Located in Hong Kong, the port is an international railway passenger checkpoint open all year round. Following the “Two Inspections at One Place” mode, the port houses both the Hong Kong side and the mainland side, with each side conducting separate exit and entry inspections according to respective laws.

Opening hours: 6:30 a.m.-11:30 p.m.

Location: West Kowloon, Hong Kong SAR

Liantang Port

Liantang Port is a land border-crossing between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, serving both passengers and cargo. The main building of Liantang Checkpoint adopts an elevated design: the first floor is for cargo inspection and the second floor is for traveler inspection. The designed capacity is 30,000 individuals/day and 17,850 vehicles/day, including 15,000 trucks, 2,000 minibuses and 850 buses.

Opening hours: 7 a.m.-10 p.m.

Metro: Line 8 to Liantang Checkpoint Station (莲塘口岸站)

Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport

Covering an area of 450,000 square meters in Bao'an District, the new Terminal 3 of the Shenzhen airport has a designed capacity of handling 45 million travelers (36 million domestic travelers and 9 million international travelers). The Fuyong ferry terminal, affiliated with the airport, offers ferry service between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Macao, as well as Shenzhen and Zhongshan. The Fuyong ferry terminal operates from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Opening hours: 24 hours daily airport travelers, 8 a.m.-9 p.m. for Fuyong Terminal

Yantian Port Checkpoint

One of China's four major international deep-water ports, Yantian Port in the northwest part of Dapeng Bay is comprised of the Yantian terminal area, Xiadong port area and the Guangdong Dapeng LNG Wharf. Put in operation in July 1994, the Yantian terminal area has 15 berths for large container vessels of 100,000 tons and three berths for multipurpose use, and operates about 100 international routes. The Xiadong port area, with nine berths, handles crude oil, LNG and other hazardous chemicals. The Dapeng LNG Wharf is located in the Chengtoujiao area of Dapeng Peninsula. It has a berth that can accommodate 80,000-ton LNG vessels and has a 5,000-ton working boat.

Shekou Port

Shekou Port consists of two parts: the cargo-only container terminal and Shenzhen Prince Bay Cruise Homeport, which is open to border-crossing travelers. Currently, Shekou Checkpoint has a total of 31 berths, 10 of which are for container vessels and eight for passenger ships. The container terminal has a designed capacity of handling 1 million TEUs annually.

The passenger-only Shenzhen Prince Bay Cruise Homeport operates direct ferry connections to the Hong Kong airport, and a number of other destinations in Hong Kong and Macao. A bus terminus near the Metro station offers bus services to locations throughout Shenzhen.

Opening hours: 7 a.m.-10:30 p.m. every day for Shekou Cruise Homeport, 24 hours daily for the container terminal

Metro: Line 2 to Shekou Port Station (蛇口港站)

Chiwan Checkpoint

West of Shekou Port, Chiwan Port currently has 17 berths, six of which are for container vessels only. It is accessible to the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway, among other intercity highways, and the Pingnan Railway. Second only to Shekou Port in term of scale among ports in western Shenzhen, Chiwan Port is a comprehensive checkpoint integrating rail, road and sea transport.

Opening hours: 24 hours daily

Metro: Line 2 or 12 to Chiwan Station (赤湾站), and then take a taxi

Mawan Checkpoint

West of Chiwan Port in the western part of Nantou Peninsula, Mawan Port has 14 berths, among which three are for container vessels.

Opening hours: 24 hours daily

Metro: Line 5 to Liwan Station (荔湾站), and then take a taxi

Dachan Bay Port Checkpoint

North of Mawan Port in western Shenzhen, Dachan Bay Port covers an area of 10.28 square kilometers with 17 berths for deep-water container vessels. It has a designed capacity of handling 12.50 million TEUs.

Opening hours: 24 hours daily

Metro: Line 11 to Bao’an Station (宝安站), and then take a taxi

Daya Bay Checkpoint

The Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant Wharf is about 45 kilometers from Shenzhen. It is built and privately operated by Guangdong Nuclear Power Joint Venture Co. Ltd., and has been open to vessels registered in foreign countries since Jan. 1, 1986. The wharf has four berths.
