Tomorrow Festival opens Thursday

The first Tomorrow Festival, a non-mainstream music festival, will open Thursday and run through May 19 at various places in the North Area of OCT-LOFT.

The festival will cover various styles of music, including experimental, rock, avant-garde, free jazz and world. It will focus on artistic prospective and creativity.

Highlighted musicians and bands will include Bonaparte, Bachi da Pietra, Tatsuya Yoshida, Don Vito, Mnaga a Zdor, L’Enfance Rouge, Elliott Sharp and Iva Bittova.

All the shows will be held at B10 Live and tickets for each show are only 80-100 yuan. Some artists will give free lectures at Old Heaven Book Store or A3+.

Bonaparte is a Berlin-based electronic rock band headed by Swiss songwriter Tobias Jundt. Jundt is the only permanent member, and there are up to 20 other live performers. The band is characterized by their expressive, critically acclaimed live performances.

Yoshida is a Japanese drummer and composer who is the only consistent member of the renowned progressive rock duo Ruins. He has been cited as “the indisputable master drummer of the Japanese underground.”

L’Enfance Rouge

Band L’Enfance Rouge comprises of guitarist Francois R. Cambuzat from France and bassist Gianna Greco from Italy. Their music is improvised electronic music.

Sharp is an American multi-instrumentalist, composer and performer. A central figure in the avant-garde and experimental music scene in New York City since the late 1970s. Sharp has released over 85 recordings ranging from blues, jazz, and orchestral music to noise, no wave rock, and techno music.

Bittova is a Czech avant-garde violinist, singer and composer. She started recording in 1986, and by 1990, her unique vocal and instrumental technique gained her international recognition.
