Violin concert to feature catchy tunes

Violinists Pavel Vernikov and Svetlana Makarova will collaborate with Russian pianist Nikolay Alexsandrov to present Mozart’s “Violin Sonata No. 21,” Dvorak’s “Sonatina in G Major,” Enrique Granados’ “Spanish Dance No. 5,” Manuel de Falla’s “Spanish Dance” and catchy tunes.
Vernikov is a winner of the Munich International Competition. He graduated from the Stolyarsky Music School and was mentored by David Oistrakh and S. Snitkowsky at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory.
For more than 20 years he has been performing as a soloist and as a chamber musician in Europe and the United States, performing in venues such as Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, Salle Gaveau, La Scala di Milano and the Accademia di Santa Cecilia. He teaches at the Vienna-based Konservatorium Wien and Swiss University of Lausanne.
Makarova is professor of violin at Haute Ecole de la Musique in Lausanne. At the age of 10 she won the first prize at the Moscow International Youth Tchaikovsky Competition. Thereafter she won different prizes at numerous international competitions. In 2008 Svetlana finished her postgraduate studies at Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory.
In 2005-2008 she was teaching at Gnessin’s Music College in Moscow. From 2008 she was co-principal at the Orquestra Palau de Les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia (Spain). Since 2009 she has collaborated with Vernikov in masterclasses throughout the world, such as at the European Music Institute Vienna, Wiener Meisterkurse and courses in Italy, Israel, Japan and Switzerland.
