The 53-km Baoping Road, which links Bao’an and Pingshan and covers six districts, will start from Binjiang Boulevard in Bao’an District in the west and end at Phase III of the Nanping Expressway in Pingshan District. The road includes elevated bridges, tunnels and ground-level roads. The tunnels and elevated bridges are urban fast roads with designed speeds of 60-80 km per hour and the ground-level roads are designed as city trunk roads with speed of 40 km per hour. The roads have six to eight lanes in two directions.
The road will cut a trip from Qianhai to Pingshan to one hour and relieve congestion on the Jihe and Nanping expressways.
The road will be connected with a dozen south-north roads and expressways along its way, offering fast transit to the Shenzhen airport, the greater airport area, Guangming, Longgang CBD and Pingshan.
Additionally, Wanghai Road in Nanshan District, an important road linking Shekou with the rest of Nanshan and Futian, will be renovated into a double-layer road.
A trip from Shekou to Futian will be cut to 15 minutes after congestion in the Shekou area is relieved with the use of the road.
Traffic in Shekou is not smooth due to geographical reasons resulting in a lack of high-level roads linking it to outside areas.
The renovation of the 8-km Wanghai Road, which links Xinghai Boulevard in the west and Shahe West Road in the east, will start soon.
The underground road is designed for traffic at 60 km per hour, and the ground road is designed for 40 km per hour.
The road will greatly improve traffic in the Taizi Bay, Sea World, Shekou Fishing Village and Houhai areas upon completion.
Work on the underground road will employ tunnel-boring machines to minimize impact on the environment. The underground road will be connected with other ground-level roads, including Xinghai Boulevard.
