Dawan Residence in Pingshan District was listed into the first batch of Shenzhen Blocks with Distinct Cultural Characteristics. The news was announced at an award ceremony held Tuesday at Nantou Ancient Town, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday.
Dawan Residence, which covers an area of 15,000 square meters, is a Hakka-style village with a history of nearly 300 years.
Wang Qiang, the city’s publicity chief, and Vice Mayor Wu Yihuan attended the ceremony and awarded the first group of blocks.
In 2018, the city government drew up its plan to upgrade and renovate 10 blocks with distinct cultural characteristics as part of the city’s efforts to build itself into a culturally significant city with a global view and a modern civilized city that demonstrates the country’s soft power.
After two years of renovation work, seven blocks, including Dapeng Fortress in Dapeng New Area, Nantou Ancient Town in Nanshan District, Dafen Oil Painting Village in Longgang District, Guanlan Printmaking Base in Longhua District, Gankeng Hakka Town in Longgang District, Shekou Sea World in Nanshan District and OCT Loft Creative Cultural Park in Nanshan District, have met the required standards.
At Tuesday’s ceremony, the seven blocks were recognized as Shenzhen Blocks with Distinct Cultural Characteristics.
To fully explore the historical and cultural values of Shenzhen, the city will continue building blocks with distinct cultural characteristics and promote cultural tourism in these areas.
