Train services resume after snow


Pingshan residents should notice that the nine trains that were halted for service due to heavy snow in northern China had resumed service as of yesterday.

On Friday, the operator halted K106 and Z108 to Beijing, Z186 to Shenyang, Z182 to Linhe, K1620 to Tianjin, Z148 to Zhengzhou, and K1282 to Jinan and on Saturday, the operator halted K106 to Beijing and K1620 to Tianjin.

A total of 13 trains from Shenzhen North Railway Station to northern China were delayed Thursday due to the heavy snow that affected Shaanxi, Henan, Hubei, Anhui and Jiangsu.

The first snow of the new year, which began hitting China on Wednesday, affected life and traffic in the country.

By Saturday afternoon, 13 sections of expressways in Jiangsu Province remained closed and 51 scenic spots in nine cities in Anhui were shut due to safety concerns, according to a Xinhua report.

In Anhui, the worst snowstorms since 2008 have killed 13 people, causing direct economic losses of 1.26 billion yuan (US$194 million).

Affected by the heavy snow, nine flights from Shenzhen to cities including Xi’an, Yinchuan, Luoyang and Zhengzhou operated by China Southern Airlines on Wednesday were canceled.

On Thursday, a total of 15 flights from Shenzhen were canceled due to closures of airports in cities including Zhengzhou, Zhangjiajie and Hefei.

The minimum temperature in Shenzhen will reach nine degrees Celsius tonight due to cold air from the north. The cold weather will last for four-five days and the minimum temperature will reach seven degrees Celsius, according to Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory.

Meteorologists have reminded the public to take precautions against wind, keep warm and avoid carbon monoxide poisoning while taking a shower.

Statistics provided by Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory showed the city’s weather in January would be cold, dry, windy and hazy.

Three rounds of cold air will affect the city Jan. 16-17, Jan. 21-22 and Jan. 27-28. There will be five or six days with temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius, and minimum temperatures will reach seven to eight degrees Celsius.
